4.2. Learning tasks

This is a 6 ECTS course organized as follows:

  • Lectures.
  • Practice sessions.
  • Autonomous work and study.
  • Assessment tasks.

4.3. Syllabus

This course will address the following topics:

Section 1. Western philosophy domains

  • Why is philosophy an expression of western culture. Hegel and universal history.
  • The greek world: greeks and and the others.
  • The western desire of the East in modern Europe (from Schopenhauer to Foucault).

Section 2. Approaches to Eastern philosophy and its problems

  • Eastern philosophy. Its concept and its history.
  • Main references and philosophical problems:
    1. Confucianism. Philosophical problem: moral foundation.
    2. Taoism. Philosophical problem: being and becoming.
    3. Hinduism. Philosophical problem: the Ego and its illusions.
    4. Budism. Philosophical problem: suffering.
    5. Zen. Philosophical problem: zen and postmodern language.
